Once again the state of Illinois has denided CILA placement for my younger brother [CILA= Controlled Independednt Living Arrangement]. This time they denied us saying that he didn't qualify for priority housing. How much more priority can he get????? If one or both of our parents died BEFORE we get him placed, I don't even want to think about it. Me being the full time caregiver of a disabled adult. Let the fun times begin. We need to get him into his own home BEFORE anything untoward happens. Gradually introduce him to the next phase of his life. Otherwise he'll be so traumatized that getting him to adjust will be near impossible. If and when i have children, I WILL NOT remain in a state that has such poor social services for the needy. Illinios ranks 48 in caring for its disabled population, behind like Missisippi and ARkansas.
I hope the families suing the State because of its priority clause--which SO isn't working and probably IS Unconstitutional--win big time. Maybe a nationally recognized federal decision will get our damn legislature MOVING.
Note to any Illinoisians with disabled family members, MOVE as soon as you can. Go to Iowa or Michigan. At least there you can get the things you need for the ones you love.
